Now is the time!

The Four Winds blog is open for submissions, and we’d love to publish what you have to say! What we’re looking for:

  • Content between 500 and 5,000 words long;

  • Personal essay, “op-ed” piece, or journalistic-style article;

  • Topic choices are broad but include history, memoir, anecdotes, political analysis, philosophical interrogation, cultural observations/commentary.

We are willing to publish pieces anonymously, as long as we can confirm any claims made in the article/essay.

Please DM KimBoo here on Substack, or email me at kimboo.york@gmail.com.

But Why?

The goal of the 4Winds blog is to provide a space for alumni and other community members to publicly share their experiences and thoughts about this unique institution.

This is not just about community connection, although that is an important aspect! We believe that The Other Side has controlled too much of the narrative around New College of Florida, including the academics and culture we cherish so much.

Consider this an opportunity to share what you loved about your experiences as a student or faculty; or to explain why it was fundamental in your growth (personal and academic!); or to share the questions you have about its future.

New College of Florida has never been a “perfect” institution, but it has been a life-changing one. Let’s talk about it!

Disclosure

The 4Winds blog is not affiliated with any activist organizations, but the editors do live in Florida, so we have to draw the line at purposefully incendiary language, threats to political figures, and ad hominem attacks of any kind. Furthermore, we will not accept any pieces that contain sexist or racist language, misgendering, deadnaming, slurs, or calls for violence.

Rights & Permissions

The rights for anything submitted to 4Winds, whether published or not, remain with the author. The author is giving 4Winds permission to publish their work one time on the blog. This includes the right of the admins to share the link on social media, but not to reprint the work in any other format without the express written permission of the author.
